BG Opinion Article-Installing bike and bus lanes requires public debate

Please read the opinion piece published in today’s Boston Globe about separated bike lanes. Authored by Jon Hurst, president of the Retailers Association of Massachusetts and Barbara Anthony, former undersecretary of the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation, the piece highlights the lack of discussion and engagement of businesses and residents in decisions that are transforming city streets.

CSA hopes this city wide initiative remains a deep concern for residents and a focal point for the upcoming city council election this fall. Whether you support separated bike lanes or not, most residents agree the city council’s process was seriously flawed. Now, with serious negative impacts on businesses and neighborhoods becoming apparent, the council’s decision to move forward without evaluation is a clear indication that something needs to change in our city government.
